Rand Bishop
Rand Bishop is a Grammy-nominated, BMI Award-winning, Million-play songwriter with well over 200 cuts to his credit by such artists as Tim McGraw, David Ball, Lorrie Morgan, Beach Boys, Heart, Cheap Trick, Indigo Girls, Richie Havens and Vanilla Fudge — among many others. Bishop’s My List, recorded by Toby Keith (co-written with Tim James) spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard country singles chart in the spring of 2002 and became country radio’s most played song for that year. Bishop and James also co-authored the profitable companion book, My List (24 Reflections on Life’s Priorities), published by McGraw-Hill in 2003.
In his nearly 40-year career, Bishop has filled just about every role in the creative end of the music business: recording artist (Elektra, A&M, MCA, Epic), session vocalist (Rita Coolidge, Cat Stevens, Ted Nugent, Beach Boys), producer (Outlaws, Kick Axe, Trent Summar, Rhythm Corps), A&R exec and publisher.
Other notable credits include Bishop’s screenplay, The Tin Roof (First Place, The National Screenplay Showdown, 2004) and the stage play, The Viewing, which debuted at Nashville’s prestigious Darkhorse Theater in 2006.
Bishop’s new book, Makin’ Stuff Up (secrets of song-craft and survival in the music-biz) was published in December of ’08, and his song-craft coaching website is http://makinstuffup.net. He continues to pursue a career as a writer, publisher, talent-development consultant and music producer in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lives with his wife, Stacey and youngest daughter, Glendyn.
